Mountain Caribou & Barren Ground Caribou.

Our hunting area also offers an abundant population of caribou—we are lucky enough to offer both Mountain and Barren Ground caribou species. The world-famous Porcupine Herd travels through a part of our hunting concession in the late Fall on its ancient migration across Northern Canada. This area thrives with smaller, native caribou herds as well, and we credit this to the abundant tundra vegetation—a gorgeous pallet of lichens and grasses that exemplify High North ecology.

The Mountain and Barren Ground caribou hunts are offered as a horseback spot-and-stalk hunt throughout the hunting season. As the caribou collect in small groups, this is an exceptional herd-animal hunting experience that brings hunters to the truly wild places. While both species intermingle, your guide will easily be able to distinguish between them. You also have the option of harvesting one bull of each species in specific subzones for an extra fee. The caribou we harvest in the early season up until approximately August 20th are usually in velvet, making beautiful, memorable mounts. Trophy bulls are spread evenly throughout the concession in high numbers. In many seasons, Midnight Sun has harvested bulls exceeding 400 inches and has won awards for caribou nearly every year. From hunting remote mineral licks in a ground blind to tailing the great migrations, our caribou hunts make for a thrilling and genuinely rewarding adventure.
